Photography - Light Painting - Nude Photography - Speed

"Expressive photos. Ilse Gabbert initially studied painting and the influence of painting remains an important part of her work, even when she uses different techniques such as etching, monotype, woodcuts, collage. (...) Sometimes she swaps her brush for a camera. (...) and thereby not only manages to bring emotions into the picture, but also to awaken them in the viewer. (...) As an artist, she creates a world that does not exist and which cannot be rationally explained. We can only follow her emotionally. (...) indeed when Ilse Gabbert’s work confronts the viewer with the question, “How real is reality?”, then you may also wonder whether we are able to perceive what we believe to see..."

Schenning, Harrie: Zur Ausstellung in der Galerie Bij de Boeken, Ulft/NL

Light painting

What does a famous high-rise tower of an International insurance group in Düsseldorf remind us of or the beat of bird wings, that encompasses a photographic play with sources of light. Ilse Gabbert uses camera and light in these photographs like a brush and colour in painting.

Nude Photography

A facinating play with perception. Where the work with models in the context of installation and projection was originally the impulse for ideas for paintings, it has now become independent.

Series Speed

This series began with taking photos of lorries from a moving car and at a later point cars and landscapes were added. "... amazing photographic abstractions, whereby the fascination of these images is that the camera sees more than the human eye, which is one of the great wonders of photography itself. The artist photographs lorries on the motorway from a moving car and the results are light traces around the rotating tyres. The visual distinction that sets photography apart from other media, is its subtle nuances, and it is this that excites the artist in her work."

Dr. Susanne Höper-Kuhn, Ausstellungseröffnung Galerie HTM,  Hamminkeln
